An unusually early Nor’easter winter storm plummeted the area with a few inches of wet heavy snow that kept New Market Fire busy throughout the duration of the storm and its aftermath. Heavy tree branches and wires broke loose and caused disruption of electric, phone and cable service for a number of residents. Included, was a primary electrical line that fell across the street from Station 1 at Hamilton Blvd. With at least 10kv of electricity, the line has been arcing and creating quite a sight for motorists who have been detoured around the area by Fire and Police units. S. Washington Ave remains closed at this time between Woodrow Ave and Evans Ave and is expected to remain closed until PSE&G can secure the line and make repairs to the roadway.
