The New Market Fire Department is dedicated to providing excellent service to our community and making a difference in the lives of the people we serve. We know that through our interventions we are enhancing and changing our community one life at a time.

We proudly provide services in Fire Suppression, Vehicle Extrication, Rescue Services, Fire Prevention, Hazardous Materials, Public Education, Disaster Mitigation, and Participate with the Swift Water Rescue and Dive Team.

The Fire Department has 43 active Firefighting personnel and approximately 3 cadet members ready to serve you in a courteous and professional manner. We take pride in our service delivery and we use our training and skills to assist our residents, business partners and visitors on approximately 650 calls for service annually.

We believe in community based fire services, the practice of having firefighters involved in many community activities and events both on and off duty. We also encourage our community to get to know our firefighters by visiting our fire station and community events regularly. We are energized by our partnership with the community we serve. We are a department driven by values. Our values are to serve with passion, respect, quality, and integrity.
In closing, we want you to know that the men and women of the New Market Fire Department are honored to serve in the Township of Piscataway for over 100 years.

Fire Chief's Profile

William J. Lemire (Billy) First became Chief of the New Market Fire Department by being elected in January 2008. Prior to that he served as Acting Chief for a year, Deputy Chief for three years, Assistant Chief for two years, Captain for two years, Lieutenant for two years, Safety Officer for two years and President for two years. He has been serving the fire service community since 1988 when he started fire school right here in Piscataway Township at the Piscataway Fire Training Facility.

He is currently retired from the United States Navy after serving honorably for 26 years.
